August is the perfect nexus of summer grilling season and the start of preseason football tailgating glory. It’s a few precious weeks when grilling in your backyard meets grilling in your stadiums parking lot without a parka.
To commemorate this glorious time of the year, grab some good beer, some good friends, and our best recipes that can be made over an open flame. Whatever it is you grill, this beer barbecue sauce makes everything from tofu to beef ribs taste amazing. The home team would approve.
Maple Porter BBQ Sauce

- ⅓ cup real maple syrup
- 1 tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp black pepper
Preheat oven to 250.
Heat the oil in a pot over medium high heat. Add the shallots and cook until soft, about 3 minutes. Add the garlic and stir until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
