The first week of September marks the end of grilling season for some. Luckily, we live in Arizona so we are able to grill most of the year. Even still, we find ourselves having end-of-summer parties every year. We celebrate the end of unbelievable temperatures and welcome the cooler temps.
This weekend we had a fun little summer get-together and of course burgers were on the menu… but I keep coming back to these grilled pizzas we’ve been enjoying. The solution ended up being simple: Combine the two. A pizza burger.
Of course not just any burger could compare to our fabulous pizzas. They are loaded with our favorite toppings! My “Meat Lovers Extreme” pizza comes complete with double beef, bacon, sausage and pepperoni. That pizza was the inspiration for this burger.
The Meat Lover’s Cheesy Stuffed Pizza Burger is made up of a burger with beef, sausage and bacon mixed together and stuffed with a blend of Italian cheeses. After the burger is cooked to perfection it is served on a toasted ciabatta bun with more cheese, pepperoni and your favorite marinara. Now, that’s amore!
These fabulous burgers go from prep to plate in just 30 minutes and will certainly be the star of your gathering!
With love from our Simple Kitchen to yours.
Meat Lover’s Cheesy Stuffed Pizza Burger
- 1 lb 80% lean ground beef
- 1 lb mild Italian sausage, casings removed
- 1 lb thick cut bacon
- ½ cup shredded Italian cheese
- 1 (7-oz) package pepperoni
- 6 slices provolone cheese
- 6 ciabatta buns
- 6 Tbsp marinara sauce
Preheat grill to medium-high.
Chop bacon into small pieces. Combine beef, sausage and bacon. Mix until combined, do not over mix as this can cause the burgers to be tough.
Divide mixture into 12 (4 oz) portions and form into patties larger than your bun. Add 2 Tbsp shredded cheese to the center of 6 patties. Place a patty with no cheese on top of the cheese topped patty. Using your thumb and index finger pinch the patties together to form one patty. Repeat until all patties are formed.
Place burgers on grill. Grill until you reach desired doneness, flipping once. Cook time is approximately 4 minutes each side for medium. Keep lid closed to cook through. If needed, you can move burgers to indirect heat for several minutes to finish cooking.
Place cut buns, cut side down on grill and cook until toasted.
Top burgers with approximately 10 pepperoni pieces and a slice of provolone for the last few minutes of cooking.
Place approximately 10 pepperoni on each bun, then top with a Tbsp of marinara. Place burger on sauce and add top bun.
Serve and enjoy!
Cooks Note: If you have a hard cutting bacon time try using kitchen shears, they cut bacon much better.
